Formula 1 2018 Azerbaijan Grand Prix results: Lewis Hamilton wins after Red Bulls collide

LEWIS Hamilton has claimed an absolutely mad Formula 1 2018 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

The Mercedes driver pinched first place after a series of unfortunate events for the drivers in front of and behind him in the last 11 laps of the race.

On Lap 40, Red Bull drivers Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen knocked each other out of the race, colliding at Turn 1.

Ricciardo was attempting to pass his teammate after falling behind him following a pit stop. He went into the back of Verstappen under braking.

“I’ve got no comment to make until I’ve spoken to both of the drivers,” Red Bull boss Christian Horner told Sky F1 after the crash.

Verstappen appeared to make multiple moves to defend his position, including moving under braking, as Ricciardo committed up the inside.

Haas’ Romain Grosjean, who was in sixth, then crashed behind the Safety Car on Lap 43.

The Safety Car enabled Valtteri Bottas, who was running a long stint on his tyres, to pit and hold onto track position.

On the restart on Lap 47, Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel locked up trying to pass Bottas for second after blocking Hamilton, causing him to drop behind both Hamilton and Kimi Raikkonen.

But then a lap later Bottas copped a puncture running over some debris, elevating Hamilton to first.
